Salt: How Much Is Too Much?

Salt is an essential part of our diets – both in terms of our health, and in terms of our palate – but too much of a good thing can quickly become a health risk. While salt plays an important role in supporting nerve and muscle function, excessive sodium intake can lead to some very serious health concerns, including high blood pressure, increased risk of cardiovascular disease, and possible kidney damage.

This makes consciously managing the levels of salt provided through contract catering solutions extremely important. It’s crucial to ensure that you consume enough salt daily to support your body’s core functions, without straying too far into excessive intake – and that’s where our expert dietitians and chefs come in handy.

Here at Cater Care, we’re committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of all our customers and residents through nutritious, balanced meals. Our expert dietitians carefully curate every meal and menu we design to make sure that they contain the optimal levels of nutrients without getting carried away with the salt shaker.

If you don’t have an expert Food Team available, don’t worry. Most of the excessive salt that makes it way into our diets comes through processed and packaged foods, and cutting the extra sodium out of your diet can be as simple as making a few culinary changes. To learn more about how much salt we should be consuming, how it gets into our diets, and what we can do about it, check out our fact sheet at the link below!
