Diabetes Management

Diabetes is a common condition where the body cannot maintain healthy levels of blood sugar by itself. People living with diabetes need to keep a careful eye on their blood sugar levels; if blood sugar levels remain uncontrolled over a long period of time, this can lead to long-term complications affecting vision, kidney, heart, and nerve function.

In the past, managing diabetes often meant strictly avoiding certain groups of foods that could provoke a problematic shifter in the body’s blood sugar levels. Nowadays, the approach has shifted. People living with diabetes can enjoy the same foods as everybody else, as enjoying regular exercise and following a balanced diet in accordance with the Australian Dietary Guidelines, limiting saturated fats, added sugar, salt, and sometimes medications such as insulin can help keep blood sugar levels within the target range.

However, managing diabetes continues to pose a challenge for people from all walks of life. While individuals can do a great deal to manage their own diabetes, people reliant on catering services need to be able to trust that their catering provider has designed their meal plans to be supportive of their health and wellbeing.

We recognise that there’s no one size fits all approach to managing diabetes, and that’s why our educating catering, remote catering, and aged care food services all operate their own complex strategies to be able to ensure that diabetic diners can enjoy fulfilling mealtimes without compromising their safety.
