From the Kitchen to Leadership: Rheima’s Growth in FIFO Catering

At Cater Care, we believe strong teams start with strong people—and that means backing our employees with the support, training, and trust they need to succeed. Across remote worksites and FIFO operations around Australia, our people are the heart of the service we deliver. As one of the leading remote catering companies in Australia, Cater Care is committed to helping every team member grow and feel like they’re in the right place.

Today, we’re sharing the story of Rheima Bishop. Since joining Cater Care in 2014, Rheima has grown from starting as a team member into a Relief Village Manager, stepping up with skill, compassion, and confidence. We sat down with her to talk about her career journey, the culture that helped shape it, and what advice she has for others considering a role in FIFO catering.

Can you tell us a bit about your current role and how you started with Cater Care?

My name is Rheima Bishop, and I’m a Relief Manager working at Osborne Mine. I’ve been with Cater Care since August 2014.
I started in a frontline role, and over time, I’ve learned a lot to become better and more efficient in what I do. The company has really helped me grow.

What kind of support have you received in your career development?

Cater Care supported me the whole way. My Operations Managers pushed me—they had goals for me because they saw my potential. That support made a big difference, and here I am today.
I wouldn’t be in this role without their encouragement and belief in what I could do.

How has your role changed since you first started?

It’s evolved a lot. Now, as a relief manager, I step into different sites and situations, which means being flexible, thinking quickly, and solving problems. It’s a big responsibility, but it also shows how many growth opportunities there are at Cater Care.
If you show commitment, they really do invest in you.

What’s the work culture like on site?

The culture at Cater Care is very much safety-oriented and positive. We care about our staff’s mental wellbeing, as well as their physical wellbeing.
It’s a team environment, and people look out for each other. You’ve got to.

What keeps you motivated in your work?

It’s the clients—we’re here to help them, to make things easier for them. Solving problems and putting a smile on someone’s face is absolutely fantastic. That’s what I love about it.

What would you say to someone thinking about applying for a FIFO role?

I’d encourage you to come in with an open mind. FIFO life may be for you, or it may not—but you won’t know until you give it a try.
And when you do, give it 100%. Put your heart into whatever you’re doing. You’ll be surprised.
