Laughter is Brightest where Food is Best: A humanistic approach to food

Laughter is brightest where food is best. It’s an old Irish saying, and as best as we can tell the origin of this proverb has been lost to time somewhere along the way. The loss of its origin has not, however, done anything to strip this old saying of the meaning at its heart; the idea that food can be a central part of building joyful experiences and memories. Here at Cater Care, building warm and welcoming experiences centred around delicious and fresh food is at the heart of what we do.

The fastest way to the heart…

A good meal is far more than just a good meal. Our surroundings and lifestyle have a distinct and immediate impact on our mental and overall health. Although exactly how our diet affects our mental health is up for debate, it’s widely agreed that enjoying a quality diet has a noticeable positive impact on our psychological and mental wellbeing.

Fresh, exciting, and delightful dining

When we’re planning our menus and building out our serveries, we always bear in mind that we want to make every meal a memory. Our chefs design seasonal menus from the ground up to provide a robust range of rich and flavourful dining experiences that rotate regularly – after all, menu fatigue runs the risk of having a negative impact on the wellbeing of our residents!

To help keep things fresh and exciting, our chefs regularly look to outside sources of inspiration for their next meal. Our Major Themes Program is just one piece of the puzzle that’s aimed at bringing flashes of joy to the dinner table by sending our residents and students on journeys across different times, cultures, and continents in search of the finest meals and menus they have to offer. Our recent Great Gatsby theme sent aged care residents back in time to the glitz and glamour of the 1920s, complete with freshly squeezed orange juice and harlequin hams.

Keeping it fresh

The “where food is best” part of the proverb is about more than just an enjoyable meal; it’s a promise of quality from beginning to end. When we help a client design and build their own catering solution, we carefully examine the availability and options of all available local suppliers to try and include high-quality local producers in our supply chain wherever possible.

The quality and freshness of the produce you work with has a direct impact on the quality of the end result, and to toe the line of our own standards, we only use the highest quality and freshest ingredients available. When our residents sit down for a meal, whether it’s inner city Sydney or the red sands of Kalgoorlie, they can do so knowing that their food will always be fresh.

Bringing the light of laughter into your own home

Although our team members continue to do incredible work, you don’t necessarily need to be a qualified and experienced chef to bring the light and joy of good food into your home. Cater Care has a wide range of recipes to suit all seasons and events, and remember that variety is the spice of life. When you’re preparing to whip up a storm, remember that where baking is a science, cooking is an art – don’t be afraid to get out there and experiment!

Food has a critical role to play in our health and wellbeing, but it’s just as important as a vital element of the social experience. If you think that the food in your dining hall isn’t quite bringing your staff, residents, or students together, then it might be time to get in touch with one of our experts below.
