October’s just wrapped up, and with it, 2023’s Safe Work Month has come to a close. The theme of this year’s Safe Work Month has been For Everyone’s Safety, Work Safely, emphasising how building a team environment that protects the health and safety of everyone working in it is a shared responsibility. The safety of our team is of utmost importance at Cater Care and in line with this year’s theme, we focussed on two key initiatives during Safe Work Month to help raise awareness and emphasise the importance of working safely.
What drives us to come home safely?
Safety in the workplace is about more than just a team member’s physical safety; it’s about their mental wellbeing and their motivation, and ability to give it their all. In line with this year’s Safe Work Month theme of For Everyone’s Safety, Work Safely, Cater Care team members were encouraged to look towards what fulfils their mental wellbeing and motivates them to work safely every day. Employees considered the five things that are most important to them in both their personal and professional lives, and the importance of working safely to be able to continue to enjoy them.
Across all of our sites, there were five key reasons that universally resonated with Cater Care teams across the country; family, friends, travel, food, and their health. To provide a unique and tangible reminder of what matters most to our people, each team and office received their own WordCloud with their personalised answers.
Giving the gift of hydration
Our dedication to encouraging safe work practices during Safe Work Month extended further than just our own team members. Residents at our remote sites are at an especially high risk of experiencing fatigue and acute dehydration in addition to their usual environmental hazards. To try to help workers fight off the heat, we gifted just over 14,000 water bottles to our residents in remote worksites across the country. These high-tech water bottles will help our remote residents be more actively mindful of their safety and workplace behaviours, and, most importantly, help them reap the health benefits of staying hydrated!
Charting the path forwards
October’s Safe Work Month is always an important time in the calendar at Cater Care. We’re hopeful that some of the work we put in this Safe Work Month helped our team members and site residents think of their safety a little more mindfully, but remember: safety is a year-round task.
