This year, in time for National Reconciliation Week (NRW), Cater Care has launched our 2021-2023 Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) – involving commitments, actions and initiatives developed by all our different team members to foster Indigenous prosperity.
With this year’s NRW theme being ‘Be Brave, Make Change,’ it aligns with the RAP’s mission of ‘Building Partnerships, Inspiring Change.’ The key aim of these conversations and nationally recognised weeks are to create meaningful differences in the lives of our First Nations peoples.
Each person at Cater Care plays an integral role in bringing these words and goals to life; whether it be at the C-suite level of setting the direction for each of the businesses within Cater Care, or on a site-based level, where unique, tailored training can be provided to our Indigenous team members.
Cater Care’s Chief Executive Officer, Colin Redman, has outlined the thinking and passion behind the latest RAP, and what it means for the business moving forward.
“When it comes down to it, our Cater Care values of Care, Pride and Community, are what’s driving this commitment, and we’re pleased to see the great results so far from it all, from the Procurement for a Purpose initiative, the tailored training delivered in Aurukun, and we can’t wait to foster more positive changes,” stated Redman.
Cater Care’s Director of People and Culture and Chair of the RAP Working Group, Melanie Shortt, is eager to recognise the importance of bravery and action, by putting in practices within her team that can positively impact the wider Cater Care and Indigenous communities.
“Along with my team, I am dedicated to building respectful two-way relationships with Indigenous team members, the communities within which we work and the businesses with which we partner.
“I look forward to working with my own team, and the wider Cater Care team, in playing a part in creating some real, measurable change,” stated Shortt.
Cater Care’s National Indigenous Participation Manager, Kevin Alley, is proud to be part of leading this journey within the company and seeing the progress thus far, as well as what’s to come.
“Through being out in the community and seeing how we can truly support our Indigenous employees – we’ve developed some strong goals and created a shared commitment towards empowering Indigenous communities and continuing the movement of reconciliation.
“Building the RAP isn’t just about having a document to outline what we plan to do, it’s about turning those plans into action which is what I look forward to doing each and every day,” stated Alley.
Therefore, at its core, the RAP genuinely provides a thorough plan to create tangible, positive outcomes for our Indigenous team members, residents, communities and beyond.
