Apprenticeship Program Builds A Skilled Workforce

The Australian hospitality industry is in the midst of monumental change as more people are attracted to the industry following the success of television shows such as MasterChef and My Kitchen Rules.

As a result the challenge of engaging new recruits to the industry and empowering them to continue their journey within this rewarding sector is real. To ensure success, Cater Care are continuing to contribute to the industry by promoting the importance of apprenticeships and other work-based training programs to build a skilled hospitality workforce.

The Cater Care apprenticeship program facilitates the development of a workforce the business needs, by growing the apprentice’s knowledge, skills and abilities. This builds increased workforce flexibility with multi-skilled employees, by supporting the skills development of the apprentice’s to learn more challenging tasks.

Cater Care apprentice, Samantha Baker is currently undertaking a Certificate Ⅲ in Commercial Cookery at TAFE while completing her practical competencies alongside our experienced chefs at Cook Medical in Brisbane.

“I have been a Cater Care apprentice since May this year, and I really enjoy the feeling of knowing I am working towards becoming a qualified Chef. I love cooking and knew that an apprenticeship would allow me to expand my knowledge and skill set to grow within the company” says Samantha.

Group Training Manager, Brian Cooper says “The time used to invest in training apprentices can help foster growth, as these trained individuals will be equipped to excel in future roles within the business.”

The positive influence from the media and television has helped promote the industry and increased the attraction in potential apprentices. Cater Care recognises the potential that apprenticeships present to industry growth with respect to the coaching and development of young industry professionals and for this reason we will continue to focus on our apprenticeship program as they provide a valuable development, growth and a career path across our business.
